Forest School Sessions and Educational Activity Days at the Greenwood Centre

Forest Schools offer a unique educational experience, which takes place in the outdoor environment, ideally in a wooded area. The philosophy behind forest schools is to develop social skills, self-esteem and independence by inspiring and encouraging children through the mastery of small achievable goals. Through spending time in the outdoor environment children can:

- Understand, appreciate and care for their natural environment.
- Learn how to handle tools safely.
- Further develop citizenship by creating opportunities for children to take responsibility for themselves and others.

We have access to the 220 acres of 18th Century parkland, wetlands and woodland environments at Escot Park, allowing children and adults to experience nature in a safe, instructive and enjoyable manner.

Half and Full day sessions as well as overnight camps and regular, timetabled days throughout the academic year are all feasible. We offer fully supervised activities, a base camp with a sociable campfire to gather around for meals and stories and sheltered workshop areas. If you are interested in creating your own Forest School curriculum we have helped numerous local schools with training, kit and site design and construction - please ring for an informal chat or to arrange a visit to our site.

Who are our sessions for? - Over the years sessions have been run for uniformed groups (cubs, beavers, brownies), Community and Youth clubs/groups, Children’s Centres (parent and child sessions), Nurseries, Pre-schools and Childminding networks, Primary and Secondary schools, home educators, FE and HE groups.

Children and young people who display challenging behaviour benefit greatly from forest school experiences, which can also be adapted to suit the requirements of Special Needs and Gifted and Talented groups. Buddy and Transition sessions have proved very successful, especially when incorporating an overnight camp.

Staff Team Building Sessions - Forest school sessions are not exclusively for children and young people. Adults can benefit and have fun too! We can tailor make days out for adult groups that will promote team building and really help show their true colours!!

Forest School Equipment

We can provide a comprehensive list of work tools suited to the Forest School curriculum, cooking pots and campfire tools, greenwood working tools. We are happy to provide a kit list and further advice - just ring for a chat. No minimum order.
